Go below the surface.
Go below the surface.
So here we go. If you are just joining us, start by listening to Pastor Matt’s message that kicked things off with vision for the year (click here to hear it).
We are going to be self-starters this year in our walk with Christ. And we are going to do it together. The vision is composed of these three elements:
1)Devotions. We are going to read the Bible all the way through by reading it daily. Shortly, you will be able to link to the reading plan by clicking on the “devotions” picture above. We are also going to build our personal prayer lives. Finally, we are going to journal, and write down the stuff God is sharing with us as we dig in for our own “water”.
2)Denial. One of Christ’s key teachings about how to follow Him is found in Luke 9:23, “Then he said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross daily, and follow me.”. There is something powerful that happens when daily we deny ourself of various things. We are going to do this in two week blocks, till December 17th. We are starting with something we are all a bit to dependent on anyways--coffee (ouch). You can find out what we are currently fasting by clicking on the picture above. NEW: we are currently going through some of the spiritual disciplines: practices that bring us near to God. Join in with us!
3)Develop. Not by independent, self-enlightenment or self improvement, but by actually allowing others to speak into my life, and I into theirs. Part of the Deeper picture is to commit yourself to one of our small groups for the semester. God develops us by having us serve people. He also develops us by having others serve us, help us, tick us off, bother us, reveal our bad attitudes, and then have us work those out in the context of a commitment to community. Sound fun? Jump in, and go deeper. Click on the picture above to see details for this semesters small groups.
We decided we wanted 2008 to be about growing together in God.
